Basics

Well this is basically a system I came up with that enabled me to conquer Medical School and the Modeling World simultaniously. I took what I learned from bodybuilding as well as in Medical School and combined them into a ridiculously easy program that incorperates the key ascpects of both. Being a future D.O. I wanted to make sure the workout included the mental ascpect of the lifting experince. In theory if you get your mind in the correct state, everything else in your body falls into place including all the components of acheiving an optimal exercise. This is accomplished by making the entire system based on something everyone can appreciate, music. You know the feeling when you hear a good song, the hair stands up on the back of your neck, this system takes that mentality and lets you chanel it into physical exercise. If you are mentally and physically in tune you can do great things in a very little amount of time.

The whole concept is based on the notion that there are two types of muscle fibers in your body, red/ white. Red is more of the Lance Armstrong type that is used for endurence and leaning up and uses oxygen to to so. The white are more the Arnold type that are for power and don't need oxygen to work. This workout combines the two to allow you to get the overal lean ripped look as well as put on some muscle size as well. This program is what you make of it. If you half-ass it then you'll look half-assed. The lift takes at most 45 min for a advanced routine (30 if you're just trying to get into basic shape) and you will find that you have to cut yourself off because it gets to enjoyable and you loose track of time.

This is my first time blogging so be patient with me for I am terrible at spelling and what not. The routine and diet are broken down in two different sections.

I ran across Ivan's web site just looking around the web a couple of weeks ago.  Man am I ever happy that I did.

I have been lifting now for more than 6 years, doing almost the same routine for most of this time.  Yeah I have switched up the exercises, mixed in super-sets/drop sets every now and then, and mixed in various amounts of light/heavy weights.  But, virtually the same stuff.

Around Christmas time last year (a couple of months ago), I began to loose my excitement about going to the gym.  For the longest time, I would look forward to the end of the working day so that I could get my gym time in.  I never really had a problem making time to go.  But gradually, over a couple of months, I was starting to find it hard to get there, making the excuse of "too busy" very often.  Of course, I could have made the time, you always can.  But my passion was decreasing.

Then, I ran across Ivan's web site.  Through his web site, I ended up taking a look at his portfolio on All American Guys and was impressed with the combination of muscle size and lean, vascularity that he had achieved.  That was interesting enough to me to go back to his web site and take a look at what he had to say about his workout.

At first, the workout seemed silly to be honest. After all, doing the same exercise, low weight, 200+ reps for 3-3.5 minutes straight sounds crazy.  But since Ivan is on the verge of starting his practice as a doctor, I figured that he must know a thing or two about what creates the best situation inside the body for muscle growth . . . so I figured I would give it a try.

BUT, believe me, it may be crazy . . . but this workout is wicked awesome.  I know I will never look like Ivan . . . after all, he’s 30 years younger.  But, if I can keep my head into this and do it right for a few months, I am convinced that I will build more lean muscle mass than I ever even imagined I could in the past.  One of the cool things about this workout is that it is easier on my joints (ie elbow and knee especially).  That’s important at my age for sure.  Plus, it is a great cardio workout.

I have now finished my first week on the Dr. Ivan plan.  So, I have been through each muscle group once.  I can tell you that everything Ivan says about this workout is true.  It is addictive, and you’ve got to watch the clock or you end up being so entrenched in it that time gets away from you.

Beware, although he’s talking about 40 lbs for bench and 20 lbs for curls, this wout is NOT easy.  Believe me, as you reach the 50th rep you have about 15-20 seconds of hell until your mind realizes that you are not going to stop any time soon, and it compensates by channelling more energy where you need it.  After this point, you just power through to the end of the song.  The Doc’s advice on completing an entire set is perfect . . . if the lactic acid pain gets so intense that you can’t keep going, just stop, put the weight down, count to 10, and resume.  It is amazing how much further you can go after just a 10 second rest.  But, what I have found is that no matter how many times you need the 10 second rest, just get to through the song.  Believe me, it’s worth it.  The pumped up feeling you get by the end of the set is as good as the best sex you have ever had in your life (don’t tell my wife i said that).

THANKS, DOC, FOR GETTING ME BACK TO WORK ON MY BODY.  I agree with your philosophy . . . you are with your body all the time so you may as well make it the best you possibly can.

Just a quick update on my Dr. Ivan workout progress . . .

It is going just wickid awesome.  I have NEVER enjoyed being in the gym so much EVER.  I have a long way to go, but i now have the confidence that i can get there.

THANKS DOC.  As for the rest of you, give it a try.  You have nothing to loose (other than fat) and LOTS to gain.

I am also trying this plan.  I saw Terry doing it in the gym (we go to the same place) and took a look at Ivan's web site and started to do it last week.  I really likeit. Even though it is hard, it is motivating enough that it is actually easier to get through than my normal workout.
